Training must be sufficient and appropriate. The training organizations structured their offers in three levels according to the categories of staff involved:
• Level 0: Risk awareness for non-equipment personnel
• Level 1: Technical staff working in the zone
• Level 2: Staff coaching

QUESTIONS FOR CHOOSING THE RIGHT TRAINING:
• Is it likely to enter an ATEX zone (machine operator, cleaning, painting, etc.)?
• Is it necessary to intervene on equipment or installations in areas at risk of explosion?
• Should new equipment be installed in these areas?
• is it responsible for defining areas at risk of explosive atmospheres in the workplace?
- Notion of work-related training obligation:
Every employer is required to “organize practical and appropriate safety training for the workers he hires” (article L4141-2 of the Labor Code).
- Specific ATEX training requirement in the Labor Code:
«Where explosive atmospheres may be formed in quantities likely to present a risk to the health and safety of workers or other persons, the employer shall take the necessary measures to ensure that:
(3) Training of workers with regard to protection against explosions should be issued; »(article R4227-49 of the Labor Code)
- Obligation confirmed by a decree of 8 July 2003:
«… Having regard to Directive 1999/92 / EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 December 1999 on the minimum requirements for improving the safety and health protection of workers potentially at risk from explosive atmospheres –(…)
The employer shall provide adequate and appropriate training in explosion protection for persons working in locations where explosive atmospheres may occur.(…)
Training offered by RCI:
- Work in ATEX zone
